Stewardship You Can Trust
Our Accountability
Serving faithfully. Stewarding responsibly. Reporting transparently.
At Pendeza Uganda, accountability is more than a financial responsibility. It is a commitment to serve with integrity, protect the dignity of the people we work alongside, and remain answerable to God, the communities we serve, our partners, sponsors, donors, and one another.
We are committed to using resources responsibly, maintaining strong governance and financial systems, protecting children and vulnerable adults, monitoring our programmes, and communicating honestly about our work.
Every gift represents trust. We take that trust seriously.
How We Promote Accountability
Governance and Leadership Oversight
Pendeza Uganda is governed by a Board of Directors that provides strategic direction, policy oversight, financial accountability, and guidance to the organisation’s leadership.
The Board supports oversight in areas including:
- Strategic planning and organisational direction
- Financial oversight and risk management
- Policy development and compliance
- Programme quality and sustainability
- Leadership accountability
- Safeguarding and responsible governance
Day-to-day operations are led by the local team, with regular reporting and accountability to the Board.
Responsible Financial Management
We use established financial controls and procedures to support responsible stewardship of all funds entrusted to us. These include:
- Preparing and monitoring organisational budgets
- Recording income and expenditure
- Maintaining supporting financial documentation
- Reviewing and approving expenditure
- Reconciling financial accounts
- Providing regular financial reports to leadership and the Board
- Conducting annual external audits
- Following approved financial policies and procedures
These controls help ensure that funds are used for their intended purposes and that financial decisions are properly documented and reviewed.
How Funds Are Allocated
Pendeza Uganda seeks to direct the greatest possible share of its resources towards programmes while maintaining the systems required to deliver those programmes responsibly.
80% of resources are directed towards programmes and direct programme support.
20% supports administration, fundraising, governance, accountability, and organisational systems.
Programme funds support child sponsorship, family economic strengthening, mentorship, discipleship, capacity building, and community partnership.
Administrative and organisational costs support:
- Safeguarding
- Programme monitoring and evaluation
- Financial management and accountability
- Staff support and supervision
- Communication and donor engagement
- Governance and compliance
- Technology and administration
- Organisational sustainability
Strong programmes require strong systems, responsible leadership, and effective accountability.
Programme Monitoring and Learning
We monitor our programmes to understand what is working, identify challenges, and improve the quality of our support.
Our monitoring and learning practices include:
- Tracking participation and attendance
- Monitoring children’s education, well-being, and progress
- Following the development of families and household enterprises
- Conducting home and community visits
- Gathering feedback from participants
- Reviewing programme records and reports
- Identifying emerging needs and risks
- Using lessons learned to strengthen future programming
We value learning because responsible service requires us to listen, reflect, and improve.
Safeguarding and Protection
The safety, dignity, and well-being of children and vulnerable adults are central to our work.
Our safeguarding practices include:
- Appropriate recruitment and screening procedures
- Clear expectations for conduct and healthy boundaries
- Informed consent for stories and images
- Protection of confidential and personal information
- Reporting and responding to safeguarding concerns
- Supervision of staff and volunteers
- Appropriate referrals when specialised support is required
We are committed to creating environments in which children and vulnerable adults are treated with dignity, listened to, and protected from harm.
Respectful Communication
We seek to communicate about families and children in ways that protect their dignity and accurately represent their experiences.
We aim to:
- Obtain appropriate consent before sharing stories or images
- Avoid language that shames, labels, or exploits vulnerability
- Protect identifying and sensitive information
- Represent people as individuals with strengths, aspirations, and God-given potential
- Share donor and sponsorship updates responsibly
Accountability includes not only how resources are used, but also how people are represented.
Partnership and Donor Communication
We value honest and timely communication with sponsors, donors, partners, and supporters.
Depending on the nature of the partnership, communication may include:
- Donation acknowledgements and receipts
- Child sponsorship updates
- Programme and grant reports
- Financial reports
- Impact stories
- Meetings and partner consultations
- Responses to reasonable accountability enquiries
We recognise that communication is an essential part of building and maintaining trust.
Accountability Is a Shared Responsibility
Accountability is strengthened when everyone plays their part. Our Board provides oversight, our leadership and staff implement policies and procedures, our partners communicate expectations, and communities provide valuable feedback about our work.
We welcome questions, feedback, and responsible engagement because they help us serve more effectively.
We remain accountable to God, the people we serve, our partners and supporters, and the mission entrusted to us.
Questions About Our Accountability?
We welcome questions about our governance, programmes, financial stewardship, safeguarding practices, and accountability systems.
